ᐆᑌᓈᕽ by Tipi ᑎᐱ (2024),
"Indigenous futurism

for me as a First Nation woman I really have never heard of Indigenous futurism prior to tagging my own work as such. as an extremely introverted person I love to explore alternative mindsets. even as a child I hid in science fiction stories from the very first episodes of Space 1999 and Star Trek. As I approached adulthood i developed a huge appreciation for comics, film, and music which is reflected in my aspects of multimedia work.

As an older adult, I merged my First Nation history and story telling culture (the indigenous knowledge of my communities), with my post secondary environmental science studies. It was in those communities that I was introduced to sacred sites, where they believed that through ceremony, portals to alternative universes opened.

I am a sacred knowledge keeper and I create artwork or stories absolutely with those portals in mind. This includes incorporating one of our sacred teachings - of planning our resources use with up to seven generations in mind.

My heart and mind travel to different time and spaces and I don’t or can’t even limit that to one style of artwork-In this way I am wholly an Indigenous Futurist and explorer." - Tipi ᑎᐱ

_glitched reality_ by 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙖_✨(2024)
"Sooo in my mind the nothing is unreal…! The moment your mind conceives it and believes it, it becomes reality! Thing is, the amount of emotion we put into the unreal it’s the energy that glitches reality!
I’m a graphic designer for 20 years now, and the last 10 years I lost my passion for creating art! I always loved creating digital art.. when I found Ai and midjourney it felt like my art passion came back! I realized that with not so much time and definitely less effort I could create things that before it took me days or weeks to finish! So I was fascinated to explore this new world… And then I joined this community and opportunities I never thought I could get came to me… Won open calls and I’ve exhibited my art all over the world which for me it’s the ultimate achievement! As an artist seeing my art in a gallery and people admiring, it’s a feeling I will cherish forever. It’s way more satisfying than selling NFTs." - 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙖_✨

Hands of Fate by tiv (2024)
“At the end of the day what really interests me is not how AI can replicate what came before but what it's own unique signature is when looking at "flaws" or aberrations that occur. We say that this is what makes us human after all do we not? Don't get me wrong I love being able to conjure all sorts of things, but there are ways the AI can jam things together because of inconsistent semantic understanding during the diffusion process that a human simply wouldn't have chosen to do of their own volition. Being unconstrained in this manner leads to all sorts of weirdness.” - tiv

why “MIAMI GLITCHES”? Superchief Gallery invited me to curate for their “GLITCH MIAMI” exhibition at SCOPE Art Show 2024 during Art Basel Miami. i curated these 3 Glitch Art works, as above:

This is part of my continuing explorations looking for uniqueness in AI art. By turning attention to the “flaws” and glitches AI produces rather than treating it as a black box

關於我們

jonCates是故障藝術(Glitch Art)領域的創始學者與藝術家。從奧地利知名的電子藝術節(Ars Electronica Festival in Austria)到紐約移動影像博物館(the Museum of Moving Image),以及紐約的藝術組織Rhizome,Cates在全球數位藝術市場擁有豐富的策展和展覽經驗。 (Best Fine Arts Schools of the United States),該課程為美國排名前五的新媒體系所之一。

About Us
jonCates is a pioneering scholar and artist in the field of Glitch Art. From the renowned Ars Electronica Festival in Austria to the Museum of Moving Image in New York, as well as the art organization Rhizome in New York, Cates has extensive curatorial and exhibition experience in global digital art markets. Taiwan's largest and most widely known contemporary art publications, Today Art (ARTCO) and ARTouch, have written: "Jon Cates' Ghost Town uses glitch art media to engage with social phenomena and offers alternative ways to discuss contemporary visual aesthetics." His work in the Glitch Art genre explores haunting, chaotic, and enigmatic technological images, reflecting the illusions and conflicts of the American West's development. As a professor at several international new media and media arts departments, Cates previously taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and founded the new media core curriculum at SAIC. This program is now one of the top five new media departments in the United States, according to rankings of the best fine arts schools in the country.
